3/4 In which I make exactly $30.52
In case you haven't seen it on Twitter, I got a new tattoo (Wednesday night) of a little slice of pizza. I don't expect to delivering pizza for the rest of my life, but I do love pizza. It is part of me and has changed me for the better. My slice reminds me of that.
Last night went well. I took 8 deliveries but only went on two runs. I think two quick quads is a great way to make some money; get in and get out. Yelling Manager insisted on cashing me out to the quarter. I owed the store $25.48. I handed over $25. This is normal procedure. The store doesn't want to deal with coins, I don't want to deal with coins, and in the long run it works out about even (if you want to know how ALL waiters/waitresses/pizza delivery people feel about coins you need to watch YourDailyTip's quick video on it). Anyway, he wanted $25.50. I protested. He insisted. So when I handed him $26 and when he handed me back two quarters, I made him open the cash register back up and give me two pennies to go with it.
I made $30.52 off of 8 deliveries for exactly $2.525 average tip per delivery.

Love the ink...how badly did it hurt getting it near your wrist? Upper arms isn't too bad, but I've been chicken about the wrists out of fear of massive pain...
Thumper: Thanks! It didn't hurt much at all. The ones on my feet hurt much more. I don't think it would be too bad for you (unless maybe you have particularly bony wrists).
As if I wasn't already convinced you're hot without knowing what you look like, now you have a slice of pizza ink'd on your wrist. You're too cool for me anyway...
anonymous: aww, shucks :)
I like your new tattoo. I think it's adorable!
About coins.....I will not give a customer coins back but I don't mind receiving them. At the store, everything is done to the penny, so I receive a lot of coins each night. Every night I come home and put the coins in a bank marked 'Shakira' because I'm saving for the concert. I make between $20 - $30 a week in coin deposits to my little Shakira bank. I'm very happy that those coins add up.
You guys would feel different I think if you wore a fanny pack like me. I could never carry all that change in my pockets.
I installed one of those cupholder thingies in my car that has the coin holders in it. For weeks when I'd get my starting wallet, I'd insist on getting $2 in coin. Then when a customer let me keep the coin, I'd put it in the coin holders.
With that coin handily in place, when I'm told to keep the change on say... $18.26 or something, I pull the .26 out of the coin holder and put it in the wallet, then pull $2 out of the wallet and put it in my tips. I always keep my tips in the car, the only exception being if we're busy and I forget to pull a pre-tip out.
At the end of the shift, my wallet almost always comes up exactly to the penny, and I have more paper money than coin. Any coin I wind up with at any point goes into the cupholder thingy first, and if it's full, into my lil bank at home. The holdings of said bank are rolled and converted if the bank gets full, and the paper cash squirreled away and used at Christmas.
The last time I did delivery, back in '01 or so, my Christmas fund coin totaled over $500. There was a better economy then, and I wasn't using the coin holder in the car, though, so it's a lot sparser than that, now.
